Mrs. Kosty and Mrs. Galik's January Newsletter

January 19, 2013

It is great to be back in the swing of things.  The children have settled back into the school routine and this is a wonderful time of year.  We have made so much progress and the children are such great learners.

While studying Martin Luther King, we are reading a book called Riding Freedom.    It is a true story of a little girl who escapes from an orphanage disguised as a boy and learns to survive in a man's world. It is set in the late 1800"s and we have had so many interesting discussions after reading a chapter.  Ask your child about the book and encourage them to retell the story. Our focus during this time of the year is story retelling.  Look for as many details as possible.

In Math, we have been studying time and this coming week, we will learn how to count money and make change.  The boys and girls are quite comfortable with telling time and counting money should be a good skill for them to master.

We talked at length yesterday afternoon about the Lincoln Memorial in Washington where MLK gave his famous speech and where President Obama will give his oath of office.  Enjoy this historic weekend and it is great to be back in school!  Go Falcons!
